Hi my name is Nigel and I am 29 years old. I have traded stocks in the past with varying results. I have recently found out that I will be made redundant from my public sector job and obviously this made me think about my future.
I have always been interested in the stock market and over the years I have bought many books about investing, if there is a book about Warren Buffett that I don’t own I would be surprised. I have traded stocks since attending university, sometimes using my student loan. I would class myself as a value investor.
Over the years though I became more and more interested in technical analysis. I guess this was because this kind of analysis suited my personality more and I also fancied the idea of making money from trading. I am very clear on the distinction between trading and investing.
So when I found out about the redundancy I decided to go for it and bought a few books about technical analysis and financial spread betting.
Over the summer I had a go at paper trading. This was not particularly successful. It was a period when the stock market was extremely volatile and lots of the trades where hitting their stop losses quite quickly. I also was quite busy with work and other projects so I wasn’t really dedicating enough time to it.
After getting back from holiday I took the decision to open a spread betting account and start trading. I started with £2000 capital which I realise isn’t a lot but this is preparation of spread betting with my redundancy money when I get it. Everything I have read on spread betting tells you to start off small so that is exactly what I am doing.
I will also be restricting the losses I can make from trades to 1% of my capital which equates to £20. I have set myself a target of breaking even by the time I am made redundant. I have learned from my paper trading that trading off daily charts may be too much to start with so I am going to start trading off weekly charts.
I will update this site on a regular basis so you will be able to see how success I am at implementing my Spread Betting Strategies. Please do take some time to read my disclaimer before continuing.
I hope you enjoy my website.
